Just Point & Shoot?!

Another shot of St Kilda Pier. It’s got this lovely old building at the end and so many yachts! LOL at the fact that there are always seagulls at the beach! Those these ones were chilled out rather than the ones that can smell your hot chips and squawk at you! Pesky little things! I think this shot isn’t perfectly straight. I really struggle with getting photos lined up nicely even though I have the grid settings on while I’m shooting on my camera. It has helped me improve but still difficult especially when I’m shooting landscape shots and zooming in. I feel like a sniper at times having to really keep steady and watch the rise and fall that comes with breathing in and out – and who says it’s photography is just point and shoot?! Lol I’d like to think there’s a little more than just that to it!

Deceptively Dark!

This photo was taken using the Silhouette Mode on the Leica D-lux 5. Not sure if I love it or hate it but it definitely makes this shot of St Kilda look serious! It was an overcast day but nowhere near this close to a stormy look created by using the silhouette mode.

Something I noted that day was how glossy the water was. You can see how the clouds are reflected in the water. It was a little eerie I must admit!

what do girly girls eat?

Any girly girl will  know that this is a gorgeous little cake that makes you feel about as cute as it looks! A strawberry mousse timbale from David Jones' Food Hall. I have to say this one was extra sweet as I enjoyed it with my sister when I recently visited family in Adelaide.

I’ll admit I have a sweet tooth and if it was genetic and I inherited this trait - then I can definitely blame it on my dad!

Ah the timbale! It makes me giggle just looking at it!!!

Aaaaamazing beetroot!

Melbourne has truly been amazing in terms of food experiences. Thanks to yet another foodie friend a group of us headed to Embrasse for some modern French dining. When i asked what they were known for the answer was veggies!

This dish was amazing. It was beetroot obviously but the colour was so beautiful! So dramatic is the beetroot colour against the dark plate. It definitely inspired me to get some dark matt
textured plates for my own kitchen.

Just blown away by the colour of the dish! I've never seen anything else like it to be honest! Usually colour like that is man made and artificial - like what you find in lollies! Amazingly all natural!

I'm here to see THE Chocolate Buddha

I had a dear friend come up from Adelaide recently and we ate right in the heart of the CBD. One of my favourite public spaces in Melbourne has to be Federation Square. I love the huge space!

I took this photo while waiting for my friend to arrive. The restaurant is called Chocolate Buddha and they serve Japanese food right from the depths of Fed Sq.

The food wasn’t outstanding (perhaps because I wasn't that hungry ?!) but the company definitely made up for that and more. Nothing beats food and friends for me ~ I’m sure many people would agree it’s one of the simplest things that can bring so much joy and happiness.

Tales of Sales & Cities

A leisurely Sunday drive lead me down to the Mornington Peninsula which is located south of Melbourne. To be honest I wasn’t sure what I was in store for when I began this mini adventure.

The sun was out that day but I was fooled because so too was the wind. It was a bitingly cold day and anybody who knows me will tell you I absolutely hate the cold. I find it debilitating and I would much rather be in bed – in other words for me to venture out in the cold you must be very important or it better be something worth seeing or doing.

After a lot of enticing and pushing I reached this little secluded spot where I took this photo. I realised there was a view worth seeing and my mood lightened somewhat! The wind definitely had it in for me that day but I will admit it was lovely to get out of pokey Melbourne (notorious for its tiny apartments and alleyways) to some big open space and blue skies.

A beautiful spot to stop and see Melbourne from a far – I’m glad I got out of the car! I love how Melbourne’s CBD looks like it’s floating. Like some sort of mystery city out of children’s novel. Such a great contrast between the floaty calm sea and boats with the misty dark, barely visible and secretive CBD in the background.

To be honest I still prefer the open skies of places less built up and densely populated. Just another reminder of how I am not much of a big city girl! The grass is possibly not greener on the other side as they say but at least there are beautiful views everywhere!

take me out on a BOYS day out

So I guess there are people that love cars and there are people that LOVE cars! Especially racing cars. I can’t say I’m that much of a fan of noisy car racing, standing in the heat of the day and eating uninspiring food from takeout stands (not that I have anything against takeout stands  - it’s just some are better than others).

I do have to say though am often happy to go along to an event just to have a different subject to focus on and take photos of. The novelty though does wear off pretty quickly once I’ve taken my photos!

I particularly like this photo – mainly because of the boy in his cap with his particular expression and the driver in the background. I like how it really is a moment in time.

If you haven’t already noticed I am addicted to this Leica camera Film Grain setting. It makes amateur photos look better and I am not going to complain about that!
